Vienna - Day 2 PM (Evening)

By the time we got off the boat it was almost dark, so we headed back to the Rathaus (Town Hall) as the Christmas lights had looked very pretty from the tram.  We weren't disappointed although they don't look much on the photos.

An ice rink circuit had been created which looked far more fun than just going round in a circle.

Although the stalls had looked lovely from the tram, when we looked closely everything was plastic (not glass) and rather tacky - pity.

We walked through the gardens to the Votivkirche and eventually found a way in.  A lovely church but undergoing renovation so not a great deal to see.

Last on our list for the day was a ride on an historic Ferris wheel which is located in Prater park and on our way home.  Built in 1897 and immortalised in the firm The Third Man it is one of the largest and oldest wheels in Europe.

Before you get on the ride there is a small exhibition of how the funfair looked in early 1900s, each working model set in an old carriage.  Very effective it was too.

It was possible to book for dinner or cocktails, or just a wizz around which is what we did but unfortunately soon after we got in the air it started to rain, so there are blobs on the windows.

On a beautiful summer's evening it would have been so much better.
